For some people, the thing that's missing from Formula 1 (aside from a race not being won by Sebastian Vettel) is the danger. If you compare the current Spa-Francorchamps to the original one it's almost sane, and new tracks have acres of tarmac run-off. If you're one such person that believes that there just isn't enough danger, then hopefully a Mr. David Hauser and his Dallara GP2/08 (complete with the full-on 4.0L, 600+ horsepower V8 GP2 engine, by the sound of it) will do for now.
Granted, he's got plenty of downforce to help him, like all high-end hillclimb cars, but still, if he misjudged one of those corners, then he'd quickly become very aware that instead of tarmac or gravel, there's nothing but metal barriers, sheer rock faces and at one point an open field to be found if you don't stay on the grey. It looks like a massive rush, though, and these videos remind me that hillclimb racing is nothing if it's not awesome.
Feel free to post your own videos of mad hillclimbers. I know there are some pretty mental purpose-built silhouette racers out there, not to mention tuned up rally cars and so on.

GP2 cars sound better than the current F1 line up, and future F1 cars.

Curious if we'll ever get these running at Pike's peak.
It's all tarmac, so there's hope.. right?

It truly is a wonderful time we live in.

I'd say Mr Hauser has a larger set of testes than most of those NASCAR guys.
The penalty for failure here is substantially more severe then running into a soft wall at a typical NASCAR race.

what a beautiful piece of road.
and yes, this is madness. look at what clipping a wall can do at half that speed in a sedan.

I always wondered what happens to older spec open wheel racecars after they get replaced or become obsolete

Was this posts shared to Jalopnik at some point? I'm trying to determine where to put it in the Best of Oppo.

Cheers!

Not sure how they'll deal with the altitude. Would be interesting

I assume they'll deal with it the same way they have dealt with it once they started using fuel injection.
I doubt there is any formula car with that kind of mapping, so yeah... They'll need to open the parameters a bit.

It's a great shame that the driver can't appreciate the surroundings he's driving through the way we can. This looks like a really amazing video game.

Well, let's just add that to the list of things I'd kill myself if I tried to do. Holy balls that was quick.

Wow, that must be exciting! Have you got any pictures of it? From this angle those groves almost make it look like you've put a rollcage on a boat (not suggesting you have, of course)! Or a Citroën Méhari, I suppose.

Nowhere near the power shown here, but it's definitely worth the annual fee to see the Hershey hillclimb (...The Elegance). Where else can you see a vintage Bugatti tear-ass up the hill? The sounds of such classics will bring tears to your eyes - seriously.

Naaa-those ribs were just to stiffen up a flip up panel over the cockpit. (re: Hey I got a bead roller I haven't used in a long time! Here looks like a good place.)

I was by the side of road similar to this one taking a piss when I heard something awesome and although quite familiar yet was somewhat different. It got louder and louder then whoosh around the corner came a red Shelby Cobra followed immediately by a black Shelby Cobra! It was worth peeing on my boots for that.
